Angela Hedderick Art
I have had a life-long interest in art, but chose a business career out of college as a means of stability. I continued drawing and painting while I was employed as an actuary, and had my first formal commission in 1998. I continued on a very occasional basis while my husband and I started a family and I left the business world for farming, gardening, and child-rearing. Whenever I don't have a pencil or a paintbrush in my hand I can usually be found playing outside with my children, weeding the garden, or rounding up cows or chickens who interpret the term " free range" too literally. I enjoy commissioned works; I find it very meaningful to craft a painting that is deeply personal to a specific person. I have also done some ink drawings as book illustrations. I have been commissioned to do quite a few "home portraits" of both contemporary and historic homes, including Terra Angelica and Evergreen Heritage Center. When I'm painting my own works I lean heavily toward rural themes: local landscapes, still life from the garden or the orchard, my kinds, and my neighbor's Jersey cows. I have been working to improve may skills in portraiture, because the human face is an amazing challenge. Youth, age, skin tone and character marks; every face is a unique landscape with a story to tell. Several friends and neighbors have been kind enough to pose for me. Once both my children hit school age, I devoted more time and effort to learning and stretching my boundaries. There is always something new to learn and try.
